Spinner - 2009
in collaboration with David Farish
A re-working of the Spinner project David Farish and I began in 2005,
built around a windshield wiper motor and a desire to experiment with perpetual motion
A new thrust bearing and some fine tuning was all it needed to be brought back to life.
Tihs kinetic sculpture was originally inspired by a dance performance
and attempts to mechanize the joy of a girl in a new dress, twirling...
A -semi-perpetual motion machine...
I love the spinning motion, the interplay of momentum and centrifugal forge.
The new and improved version was shown at the Play Game Life exhibition in Feb 2009 at 21 Grand in Oakland
The Moose Must Persuade the Duck, July 2009 at FLOAT Gallery in Oakland
and later showed at the Crucible Gallery for the It's Alive kinetic and interactive art exhibition.
